Vespa vs Piaggio

Vespa is made by the Piaggio Corporation. Mechanically they are VERY similar. I have a Piaggio and when it is difficult to get certain mechanical info, I look under Vespa and there it is.
I understand Piaggio sells more in Italy than Vespa.
There are differences which seem to come in the area of style and body parts. The Vespa body is made of metal, the Piaggio made of Plastic, but the frame of both is steel. My mechanic seemed to perfer the Piaggio since it is easier to change a part than repair a metal part. Comparing a Piaggio Fly 150 to a Vespa LX 150 I've found a few other differences. The Vespa has an additional kick start and the Piaggio only has an electronic starter... the Vespa has chrome mirrors, the Piaggio has Plastic.
The Vespa costs more. They ride identically from what I see. Vespa is more top of the line, like comparing a Chevrolet (Piaggio) to a Caddilac (Vespa). Mechanically they're nearly identical.
The outstanding difference is more people love the Vespa styling. Vespa has more of a "Classic" look. My girlfriend perfers the Vespa. I perfer the Piaggio, and I've paid over a thousand dollars less.
..... then again, she's the one with all the money.. Whatever you want baby. -A
